Hyderabad: Telangana witnessed filing of 795 nomination papers for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held on April 11, 2019, for 17 MP constituencies. The total number of voters in Telangana reached three-crore mark. With 41.7 lakh voters, Hyderabad has highest number of electors.
Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency recorded highest number of nominations (245) and Kalvakuntla Kavitha is sitting MP. With 67 nominations Secunderabad ranked at second followed by Nalgonda with 48 nominations. Medak Lok Sabha constituency has received lowest number of 20 nominations.
Among 2.96 crore voters, Telangana has 1.49 male voters, 1.47 female voters, 1,504 transgender voters and 5.1 lakh physically disabled voters. For the second term elections, Telangana added 6.5 lakh first-time voters.
“We’ll come to know the number of contestants on March 28 after the withdrawal of nominations. We’ll also take a decision on going for EVM or postal ballot depending on the number of contestants. We received 245 nominations for Nizamabad constituency and this is the highest number in the state. Coming to a complaint filed by VHP against chief minister KCR on hurting sentiments of Hindu communities, we have verified the video of the speech and found it was no violation,” said Rajat Kumar, Telangana Chief electoral Officer (CEO).
Malkajgiri has 31 lakh voters and Mahabubabad constituency has lowest number of 14.2 lakh voters.
