SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus “Baahubali 2” was expected to become the first Indian film to gross Rs 1000 crore worldwide. The film has achieved this feat in less than ten days only. Going by the film’s smashing performance at box office, trade experts now predict that the film will fetch the magical 1000 crore in profits alone.
By the end of its third weekend, Baahubali 2 grossed around 1400 crore. The film is expected to have a lifetime business of more than Rs 1500 crore. Even 2000 crore is a possibility if Baahubali 2 is received well in China when the film hits screens there in a few months.
Coming to the film’s breakdown of earnings, as the entertainment tax varies from place to place, arriving at an exact producers’ share is very difficult. Their profit can be in the range of Rs 500-600 crore. Baahubali 2 had collected around Rs 400 crore from pre-sales rights. Accruing all the numbers, the Prabhas starrer is expected to fetch a net profit of whopping Rs 1000 crore.
The makers spent about Rs 450 crore on both parts of Baahubali. Despite the huge success of the first part, they couldn’t make any profit which was shared completely between exhibitors and distributors. Film’s producers have received their due profit from second part.
The final gross and profit can be more than the said numbers as the film is yet to hit screens in non-Indian languages across potential overseas territories.
