Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the setting up of a drinking water corporation to ensure safe drinking water to every household in the state. The modalities of setting up the corporation will be discussed during the Collectors Conference scheduled to be held during this week.
As the monsoon season is round the corner, the Chief Minister called for a meeting with the officials of the Panchayat Raj department and asked them to prepare an action plan to prevent water born diseases.
The Chief Minister said that in the coming rainy season the gram panchayats should take up sanitation programme in a big way to arrest the spread of mosquitoes and diseases. He said if necessary the services of NREGA workers should be used thrice a week for taking up sanitation works in the villages.
The Chief Minister has asked the health department to gear up and prepare an action plan to prevent the spread of diseases. He asked the departments of Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Health to join together in alerting the public. He said that a massive campaign should be launched to bring awareness among people to maintain hygienic conditions during the coming monsoon season.
Minister for IT and Panchayat Raj Nara Lokesh said that the Uddanam problem would be addressed completely by the end of July. He said that purified drinking water would be supplied under NTR Srujala Sravanti to Uddanam Village and its surrounding areas starting from July end.
