Vijayawada: Former Union minister, Kavuri Samba Siva Rao, with all his Congress roots and now in the BJP, pressed for the breakup of the alliance between the BJP and TDP in the State. Sambasiva Rao met BJP national president Amit Shah here on Thursday and briefed him about the party’s prospects in the State. He had reportedly told the BJP chief that the party has bright chances to expand in the State in the absence of Congress and the failure of the YSR Congress to play Opposition role.
Emerging out of the meeting with Amit Shah, Sambasiva Rao told media persons that he had explained in detail to the party chief about the prevailing political situation in the State. He said that the graph of the TDP was falling alarmingly and it would also reflect on the BJP if the alliance continued. The corruption levels in the State have gone up and have even surpassed the corruption existed during Y S Rajasekhar Reddy’s time.
The former Union minister said that the Janma Bhoomi committees constituted by the TDP government in the State were doing great injustice to both the TDP and the BJP governments. The members of the Janma Bhoomi committees were not allowing the welfare programmes to reach out to the common people. “The schemes are restricted only to the ruling party leaders,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu hosted a lunch in his river view residence at Undavalli for Amit Shah, where the leaders have reportedly discussed about the alliance. While Amit Shah is firm on expanding his party in the State, Chandrababu Naidu understood to have emphasised the need to continue the alliance in the larger interests of the two parties.
Though a section of the TDP leaders too are unwilling to continue the alliance, Naidu is not in a mood to discontinue the alliance as that would force him to have a fighting with the Center.
