Although the success rate of dubbing films is not that encouraging, enthusiastic Telugu filmmakers never shy away from betting on potential films from neighboring states. Here is a rare dubbed film that has collected double the amount invested on it.
“Marakathamani”, a small dubbing film starring Aadhi Pinisetty in lead role, was released in the Telugu states on June 16, one week ahead of DJ’s release. The film’s dubbing rights were bought for Rs 50 lakhs and around Rs 15 lakhs more was spent on promotion and dubbing works.
With a total investment of Rs 65 lakhs, the small horror comedy went on to to collect around Rs 1.3 crore share in its full run. And, the buyer has recovered double the investment he had made on this Aadhi starrer. The Telugu Satellite rights are a bonus for the buyer.
The success of ‘Marakathamani’ can be attributed partly to decent commercial elements and largely to Aadhi’s popularity in the Telugu sates. He has become a noted face to Telugu people with the success of “Sarrainodu”. Nani’s upcoming film ‘Ninnu Kori’ and Ram Charan’s ‘Rangasthalam’ are expected to further boost his career prospects in Tollywood.
