Central Election Commission took the “Shoot CM” remarks of Andhra Pradesh Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy very seriously. The comments by Jagan against Chief Minister Chandrababu during the by-election campaign of Nandyal are in violation of the Election Code of Conduct. Expressing reservations over Jagan’s comments, CEC directed the state election commission officials to initiate action immediately.
It may be recalled that Jagan during public address said “shoot CM on the streets for failing to fulfil pre-election promises” and later during roadshow said “it is not wrong to hang people like Chandrababu who utter lies and fail to keep up their promises.”
Initially the TDP leaders lodged a complaint with the state election commission. However, the subtle response from the local officials made the TDP leaders knock the doors of CEC. TDP MPs Ram Mohan Naidu, Nimmala Kishtappa along with others filed a complain with CEC. Following the complaint, CEC scrutinised Jagan’s comments and accordingly directed State Election Commission officials to take immediate action.
