Three films released during this Dussehra season. While NTR’s Jai Lava Kusa released a week earlier, SPYder and Mahanabhavudu released with a gap of two days. All three films took a strong start on their premiers day.
Jai Lava Kusa started off on a promising note with career best premiers for NTR in overseas. The film surged past the million dollar mark by the end of Friday and completed its first weekend with strong figures. However, the film wobbled in the second week with meagre collections. Till now, Jai Lava Kusa collected $ 1.4 M. The break even mark for this emotional drama is close to $ 1.8 M and it should have a strong second weekend to put its buyers in safe zone.
Another tentpole film which released amidst high expectations is Mahesh Babu’s SPYder. The spy thriller kick started its box office journey on a mind boggling note with $ 1 Million premiers in overseas. The film took an all time fourth highest start for a Telugu film. Unfortunately, the collections nosedived from the next day. The poor word of mouth and the below par reviews have impacted the collections to some extent. After a phenomenal start, SPYder managed to collect $ 132 K and $ 44K on its next two days. The break even mark is $ 4.5 M and it looks very impossible for the film to touch the mark at this rate. The film need to perform very well in the weekend for its buyers to minimise the losses.
Mahanabhavudu, which is termed as the dark horse of this season, started off on a very good note in overseas. The film notched up $ 77K from its premiers day. The word of mouth is very impressive and the reports are encouraging. The comedy caper need to collect close to $ 1 M for entering the safe zone. So, the first weekend is going to be very crucial.
All three films should have a strong weekend if they are to get closer to the break even mark.
