High Court sought an explanation from the Telangana government as to why FIR was not filed against the Sircilla district superintendent of police, sub-inspector of Nerella police station and eighteen other police personnel.
The Nerella victims have complained to the DGP and IGP for alleged police torture of eight persons belonging to Dalits and BCs. Since their complaint was not registered, the victims knocked the doors of the court.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice G. Ganga Rao were hearing the public interest litigation on Tuesday, reminded the Advocate General that it is the responsibility of the police officers to issue an FIR and probe the matter when a complaint is lodged.
Apart from seeking explanation from the government, the bench asked the petitioner to file an affidavit elucidating the complaint.
