It is an undeniable fact that Tamil directors have had little success when they worked with our heroes for straight Telugu films. Barring a few names, most of the Tamil craftsman of the current generation have failed to make an impact at the Tollywood box office. The reasons are many: Nativity factor, script issues, casting, narration and screen-time of protagonist are some of them which are opined by general audience and film industry analysts.
If one takes names of some of the noted Tamil directors like AR Murugadoss, Gautham Menon, SJ Suryah, Dharani, Vishnuvardhan, Selvaraghavan etc all, all of them have failed to deliver goods consistently when they worked with Telugu heroes.
It is believed that Tamil directors often approach Telugu heroes with stories that were rejected by Kollywood heroes. Most of their stories are filled with Tamil flavour and sensibilities and they are given thumbs down by Telugu audience, too. Let us see some of well known examples :
AR Murugadoss, who delivered a handful of blockbusters in Tamil, failed to prove a point in Telugu with films like Stalin and SPYder. SJ Suryah, who made a strong impression with Pawan Kalyan’s Khushi, brought box office duds like Nani and Puli later on. Directors Dharani and Vishnuvardhan, who are known for bringing mainstream commercial potboilers in Tamil, failed badly when they worked with Pawan Kalyan for Bangaram and Panjaa. Selvaraghavan and Gautham Menon, too, had a patchy record in Tollywood.
If we look at the success graph of Tamil directors when they worked with our heroes, it is a very unsatisfactory as far as the box office numbers are concerned.
On the top of this discouraging background, it is heard that Tamil directors like Atlee, Linguswamy, Hari and few others have approached Telugu heroes to work in the near future. Our heroes must be wary of the success ratio of Tamil directors in Telugu before giving nod to their scripts.
