Two anchors of Sun Music channel, made fun of Singam star Surya’s height in their program and that caused quite a stir in kollywood, those two anchors were attacked on twitter by the fans of Surya, and hundreds of fans of Surya staged a protest in front of the Sun TV office. Details are as below.
Franka Sollata (Speaking Frankly) is a program that takes potshots at celebrities and gossips involving film industry. Female anchors Sangeetha and Niveditha handle this program. They were discussing the latest gossip in kollywood that director KV Anand (Rangam , Brothers fame) approached Amitabh Bachan for an important role in his next movie with Surya. At this point, one of these anchors told- “I don’t know what to say…I mean when he (Suriya) starred opposite Anushka Shetty itself, it was quite the height difference. Now with Amitabh Bachchan, I don’t know what will happen. He acted with Anushka by wearing heels. With Bachchan sir, he will need a stool.” For this other anchor replied – “Why stand and shoot at all,” adds Niveditha. “Let’s just take all the shots with the actors seated at all times.”
The video went viral immediately in the social media and caused quite a stir. Netizens blasted the anchors and demanded an apology. Producer Gnanavel raja reacted sharply asking the anchors to admit themselves in a mental hospital. Tamil Film Producers Council president Vishal tweeted: “Funny !! ???? Absolutely not. How unethical in the name of sense of humour. Totally senseless”. Director Vignesh Shivan (director of Gang movie) tweeted: “These days..Film industry has becum such a soft target for every1. There is no respect for such a dignified man & something needs to be done”. Meanwhile, hundreds of fans of actor Suriya on Saturday staged a protest in front of the office of Sun TV group at MRC Nagar, Chennai seeking unconditional apology from two women anchors.
However, Surya responded immediately and tweeted, “Let us not bring down our quality by responding to tasteless criticisms”. He also requested his fans to drop the protest.
