North East states have a unique and very different culture. They are geographically isolated with rest of the country and some of these states have faced secession movements too. So these states have always voted based on very specific local reasons. But BJP winning 2 out of 3 states is no small feat and BJP cadre says this is proof of continuing Modi “Hawaa” in the country.
While elections happened in 3 north east states of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya. BJP is all set to form governments in Tripura and Nagaland. Tripura has been left parties bastion and it was ruling for last 5 terms. But BJP could break the bastion successfully and got clean majority in Tripura.
In Nagaland too, NDPP-BJP alliance is all set to take on ruling party’s NPF alliance.
Though the battle is neck to neck between both the alliances, NDPP-BJP alliance seems to have upper hand.
In Meghalaya Congress is getting good results though not sufficient to form the government on its own. Most probably, Congress will form government here with the help of others and independents.
In the last few years, political landscape of North East has been “modi”fied as BJP formed governmens in Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. Now 2 more states are witnessing Modi Hawaa.
We have to wait and see what impact these results will have in 2019 general elections.
