Andhra Pradesh government decided to fix the maximum speed limit on state highway as 80 km per hour. This decision has been announced to prevent the accidents on the national highways in the state.
Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday instructed the officials in the state to implement the speed limit of 80 km per hour strictly on the state highways to prevent the growing number of accidents. The chief minister expressed concern over the accidents and deaths in the state. He reviewed the situation with officials of state road transport department, national highway authority and police department. Expressing concern over roads becoming unsafe due to unruly behavior of motor drivers, he asked the officials to take stringent action on those who cross the speed limit of 80 kmph.
He suggest that the time taken by the motor vehicles on national way to cover the distance between the toll gate to find if a particular vehicle crossed the 80 kmph limit and takes punitive measures against those who traveled beyond 80 kmph. He asked the officials to initiate steps to make the roads safe for travel by disciplining the traffic at all junctions on highways, filling the potholes and erecting the display boards of the various road signals. The asked them to complete this work in a month.
