In the latest development, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has waived farmers’ water tax bills. The arrears amount to Rs 700 – Rs 800 crores, according to official sources. CM KCR who laid the foundation stone for Medak Collectorate and SP Office Building construction made the shocking announcement in a public address that followed.
‘The water tax arrears are close to Rs 700 – Rs 800 crores. We are waiving these arrears. And in fact, there would be no water tax collected from the farmers hereafter. I’m really glad that a good thing has happened.
I was born and brought up here. It is because of the blessings of the people of Medak, I was able to win Telangana state. The entire nation is looking up to us in shock and awe, given the development in the state’, said KCR.
Meanwhile, political analysts believe that KCR’s waivers, and sops to farmers, and other sections of the society might be a good move with the election in a year. At the same time, this nature of ‘freebies’ and ‘sops’, and waiving off arrears will dearly cost the development of the state in the future.
