The clamour for a sequel to ‘Khakee’— based on true events from the Operation Bawaria case, which involved the nefarious activity of dacoits and its eventual containment by Tamil Nadu police led by then Inspector-General of Police (North Zone) SR Jangid— has been on the rise ever since the film set the cast registers ringing both in Tamil Nadu and the two Telugu states last year. When asked about it, Karthi told telugu360.com, “Everybody wants a sequel, especially fans. Director Vinoth has an idea but he said he’ll narrate it later. Whenever he is ready, I’m too. There are real incidents which can be made into a film. Which is why we named the Tamil title as ‘Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru’ (Braveman- Chapter One). I would like to do chapter two, but it depends on Vinoth.”
Karthi, who started his career assisting Mani Ratnam for ‘Yuva’, points out that his plans of sitting in the director’s saddle can wait for now. “Every time I see a director toil hard, I would tell to myself, ‘Why do you want to get into it’?,” he said, with a smile, while adding that it was his dad Sivakumar who advised him to think of direction later, saying that it can wait unlike acting. “Also, I believe the more you age, the better films you can make as a director, as your maturity levels increase. Take for instance K Viswanath garu. I have confidence that I’ll direct at some point of my life.”
