Telgu Desam government’s attempt to include the Kapu community in the list of backward castes has sparked a strong reaction. Today Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) took objection to the chief minister Chandababau Naidu’s assurance to include the Kapus in the BC list even though the BCs are opposed to the proposition. MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga said TDP government was moving ahead even though there was a bar on increasing the quota beyond 50 per cent. Criticizing the Naidu’s what he called over enthusiasm to include the Kapus in among the BC, Krishna Madiga said Naidu was ignoring the categorization of SCs for the benefit of the most depressed among the SC. Chandrababu’s government is planning to set up a commission to study the feasibility of including the Kapus in the BC.
He warned against pushing under the carpet the long pending demand of categorization of SC as the further postponement of the issue would lead to resentment among the Madigas. ” Naidu should not forget the Madigas of Andhra Pradesh were responsible for the victory of TDP in 2014 elections. Any apathy towards the Madigas will undo it,” he said.
First to react against the Naidu’s attempt to categorize Kapus as BC came from its own ranks. TDP MLA from Telangana and noted BC leader R Krishnaiah opposed the move and cautioned Naidu not to antagonize the BC in this anti-BC move. ” Kapus are not qualified to be included in the socially, culturally and economically backward communities. Inclusion of Kapus would dilute the spirit of reservation made for BCs. So, TDP government should desist from its decision to include Kapus to the list of BC in Andhra Pradesh,” he urged his own boss, Chandrababu Naidu
