In the face of mounting opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah have once again done the impossible thing with the sole of purpose of preventing Congress from taking benefits out of dalit vote bank in 2019 elections.
Modi and Shah are stated to have offered Deputy Prime Minister’s post to BSP supremo Mayawati if she agrees for a pre-poll arrangement and join the NDA alliance on the national scene ahead of elections.
Rumours say this is the actual reason why Mayawati has overnight changed her stand and began moving away from Congress at a crucial time when all other anti-BJP parties are rallying together to teach Modi a lesson in December polls in five states.
If BSP joins NDA, there are chances of polarisation of dalit votes to a large extent in most parts of the country going by the way ‘dalit deputy PM’ card will be played effectively by BJP leaders.
This will also deal a blow to Congress, which has traditionally been dependent on dalit votes for political power and electoral victories in different states.
BJP’s game plan has also worked well with Mayawati considering the fact that she also needed support from a strong party at the centre as her BSP is suffering from electoral defeats despite having considerable vote share in different states.
Moreover, Mayawati is also facing charges of corruption in cases that are being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate.
Obviously, Modi and Shah continue agenda of winning elections rather than addressing concerns of erosion of ideology that BJP stands for.
In matters of politics and power, values always take a back seat.
