The Telangana Congress leaders are becoming more and more confident of their victory in the December elections going by the general mood in the party. Consequently, there are many calculations and expectations among CM aspirants among the senior leaders and those hailing from strong political families. Not unsurprisingly, a new demand has also come forward that a woman leader should be made Mahakutami chief minister after the elections.
Congress All India Women’s Wing president Sushmita Dev came out with this demand, saying that the Congress party would give top priority to the women welfare as this aspect was completely neglected under the KCR dispensation. She said that in the past four and half years, Telangana has witnessed many atrocities against women with the government not playing an active part in checking the same.
Sushmita is pressing her demand by taking it up with Congress National president Rahul Gandhi soon. Recently, Congress stalwart S. Jaipal Reddy has announced openly that he is not in race for CM post from their party. Though it has left a positive impact on the party, even then there are many contenders from among the existing senior leaders to claim the CM post.
Congress leaders’ aspirations are rising in the context of new upbeat mood over the ‘Mahakutami’ alliance’s strong position to give a tough fight to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi. Though there was fighting over seat sharing and differences, the Mahakutami allies could overcome some of these hurdles and they are setting a positive mood reflecting their unity. On its part, the TRS is making unsparing criticism, saying that there are nearly 40 CM candidates in Congress and they will never work with unity to protect people’s interests.
