Tollywood Superstar Mahesh Babu has been found guilty of not paying service tax for the period of 2007-08 for the taxable services provided by him as brand ambassador for various promotions.
As per the reports from GST Commissionerate, Mahesh Babu failed to pay a service tax of Rs 18.5 Lakhs which made his accounts come under the scanner. The GST department has attached his Axis and ICICI bank accounts for an amount of Rs 73.5 lakhs which includes Tax interest and penality.
It is a known fact that Mahesh Babu has been endorsing several products as brand ambassador since 2005. So, he needs to pay the service tax for the remuneration he gets for these endorsements. The commission has found that he has evaded paying the tax. A press note has been released and it states that his two accounts have been attached as penalty.
In the past, NTR was also accused of Tax Evasion during Nannaku Prematho release. He later clarified to media about the issue.
