Well-known actor Prakash Raj has announced his decision to enter the election fray in 2019. An established film personality in South Indian industry, he is also widely known for his links with politicians and social activists. Prakash Raj’s name hit newspaper headlines when he questioned the silence of PM Modi on the murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bangalore. His comments earned the wrath of the BJP activists and the NDA leaders at that time.
Prakash Raj’s latest decision is seen apparently as a move to pursue his political career to oppose the BJP. However, he is not expected to join any other opposition party as of now. He has said he will contest as an independent candidate in the Lok Sabha polls. The actor has met with Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao sometime ago but no word has come out on what transpired between them.
It is nothing new film personalities take a plunge into politics once their innings in film industry is coming to a near close. Already, Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan have entered the politics. Unlike many others, Prakash Raj is not going to form any party of his own and his intentions are solely to be some sort of a lone crusader in support of like-minded groups. The Karnataka BJP leaders have criticised Raj for his alleged Left leanings.
