Around one and half year back, there was a buzzword ‘VelKam’ in Telangana politics. The word was pronounced as ‘Welcome’ but it is a shortened version of Velama and Kamma castes’ proximity. At that time, it was believed that, to counter the dominant Reddy community and its leaders in Telangana, KCR himself proposed this ‘VelKam’ formula . In fact, for one year before Telangana elections, this Velkam buzzword was heard very strongly. At one point of time ( in 2017), it was even predicted that TRS and TDP may contest together in Telangana state elections. But all the equations changed during and after Telangana state elections.

Now KCR announced his ministries and people were surprised to see the composition of these ministries.

Out of the 10 ministries KCR filled, 5 posts were given to the Reddy community as- Indrakaran Reddy, Malla Reddy, Niranjan Reddy, Prashanth Reddy and Jagadish Reddy got ministries. Out of the remaining five, three posts are given to BCs – as Talasani, Etela Rajender and Srinivas goud got ministries. One ministry was given to velama community and another for SC. So, as Reddy community got more ministries, some analysts were pointing that KCR might have completely abandoned the policy of ‘Velkam’. However others say, KCR had never followed this policy and it was only media that created this policy and coined that fancy word.
We will have to wait and see whether KCR has completely abandoned this Velkam policy or not.
