Hyderabad: The country’s grand-old party Congress is again stuck in seat allocation, but this time within the party. Finalising candidates for Lok Sabha seats has become a cumbersome activity for Congress as senior leaders come with different opinions about the potential candidates. Congress party is committing the same mistake of delay in seat allocation as it had cost a lot for Praja Front in the recently held Assembly elections, observed a senior leader.
Meanwhile, Congress has reportedly finalised former minister Jeevan Reddy as MLC candidate from Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency. Another former minister Sunitha Laxma Reddy will take up the responsibility of Teachers’ quota for MLC election.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has been meeting senior leaders, district, mandal and polling booth level leaders and cadres to get feedback about potential candidates in the Lok Sabha constituencies. However, difference of opinions among party cadres and leaders is causing a stalemate in the process.
For instance, Mahbubnagar and Nagar Kurnool MP seats, DK Aruna has demanded the party for fielding former union minister S Jaipal Reddy. But, TPCC chief Uttamkumar Reddy turned against this proposal saying Jaipal Reddy is not willing to contest. Responding to this, Aruna became angry and said “how come? party is in distress and without senior leaders, we can compete with TRS.”
Aruna has further proposed names of Satish Madiga and Chandrashekhar for Nagar Kurnool ticket. Former MLAs Sampath Kumar and Vamshichand Reddy exchanged words over potential candidates.
Raising objection to Satish’s candidature, Sampath said that how can party give tickets to those who’re not members of Congress.
Congress’ preliminary list comprises 10 candidates for Lok Sabha constituencies. PCC chief UttamKumar Reddy will submit the list to party high-command in New Delhi.
