Hyderabad: The latest airstrikes carried out by Indian Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday have not only cheered the nation, but also boosted the morale of BJP, which is bad shape in both the Telugu states. Definitely, it’ll brighten the prospects for BJP in forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, observes a senior saffron party leader, while political analysts feel that “chances are brighter that airstrikes will outweigh local issues, but to what extent BJP can pick up, one has to wait and see.”
The positive impact of Tuesday’s airstrikes on Pakistan may comfortably last until Lok Sabha elections reasonably enough for BJP to gain on this ground. It may be recalled that after winning encouragingly in 2014 elections, BJP lost in subsequent Assembly polls in New Delhi and Bihar. However, after surgical strikes on Pakistan in September 2016, BJP significantly recovered and won all Assembly elections held in 2017 and 2018. However, as the local and administrative issues started with fading impact of surgical strikes, BJP lost in Assembly elections in five states and Telangana was one of them.
BJP had five MLAs in the first term of Telangana Assembly and the number dropped to one in the just concluded elections in December 2018 as only Raja Singh won in Goshamahal Assembly constituency. BJP has on MP from Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency i.e. Bandaru Dattatreya.
“Regardless of local issues, all the Indians have arrived to a conclusion that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi can send a befitting answer to Pakistan and terrorist groups, who’re against India. However, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has succeeded in holding BJP as major reason for not awarding special status to AP. whether airstrikes east out the anti-BJP wave in AP, let’s wait and see. Coming to Telangana, BJP may retain Secunderabad seat in addition to winning one or two, if the airstrikes herald nationalism strongly, ” said the analyst.
