A very interesting spectacle is unfolding on the national electoral scene on the day of exit polls. On the one side, PM Modi is visiting temples in the Himalayas to relax after weeks of hard campaigning schedules. On the other side, TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu is making rounds to the residences of opposition leaders to keep them united on a day when exit polls threaten to make or mar chances forming a strong anti-Modi alliance.
The national media is full of pictures of Modi offering prayers as well as Chandrababu Naidu meeting Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav separately. Modi is the prime ministerial candidate for the NDA and he remains the central figure of the BJP. The opposition has no such unifying factor till Chandrababu volunteered to fill the gap which he has done successfully so far. The TDP leaders are growing confident of Naidu’s success in his efforts. They are commenting that Chandrababu’s entry into national politics has changed the game dramatically which is why Modi is under lot of stress and looking for mental peace by visiting temples.
