Election officials have suspended counting of Vizag North assembly segment following non-function of six EVMs. They tried to take up the counting of VVPAT slips in place of EVMs but the YCP candidate KK Raju and his agents raised objections. One VVPAT showed 107 votes while the actual polled votes are just 371.
The officials have taken this issue to the notice of the Election Commission of India. Ex-Minister and TDP candidate Ganta Srinivasa Rao was leading by around 2000 votes when the counting was suspended last night. Following this, the YCP agents kept a close watch over the counting of VVPATs.
Actually, the counting of VVPATs should be taken up by the lottery. But the officials chose to count the VVPATs in place of faulty EVMs which were not showing results in results announcements. The election officials were taking extra care as the YCP leaders are on verge of protest over the mismatch between VVPATs and EVMs.
