AP State’s financial position is very weak. The promises and running programmes in welfare sector are running into several thousands of crores of rupees. The previous TDP government began implementing Pasupu Kumkuma and increased pensions in the last two years to win over voters. Now, CM Jagan is forced to take very tough decisions on account of lack of enough financial resources to balance welfare and development.
All said and one, Jagan stormed to power on the welfare promises he made to SC, ST, BC and minorities. He is wanting to give top most priority to them. Some say Jagan is talking tough against corruption only keeping in view the need to reach these welfare benefits to his voters who gave him a thunderous victory.
As a result, Chief Secretary LV Subrahmanyam has already issued instructions to stop payments to all engineering works in view of the changed priorities of the new government. He says the works already approved but not started should be completely shelved. Speculations is rife that the ongoing developmental works will also be delayed and no new developmental works will take shape in the near future.
