The Jaganmohan Reddy government received huge response to its notification to fill up Grama Volunteers. These are not regular permanent appointments but are made on outsourcing basis. Critics are objecting to their proposed recruitment through interviews conducted by officials at district level. They argue that this would not be a transparent way of appointments.
The government is appointing 10 to 20 Volunteers in each village. They are going to play a key role in passing on welfare benefits. If they are political appointees, these Volunteers are sure to show favoritism and create conflicts in rural areas. Then there would be no difference between Grama Volunteers and Janmabhoomi Committees which were allegedly responsible for bad name to the previous Chandrababu Naidu government.
Even before the recruitment process begins, many doubts and concerns are being expressed over Volunteers posts. Some are suggesting merit-based appointments through examination.
