The TRS and the MIM are friendly parties in Telangana politics. But the police booked a case against MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for making communally provocative and inflammatory statements at a meeting in Karimnagar on June 23. BJP District President Basa Satyanrayana made an immediate complaint to the police in June itself but no case was booked against the MIM leader at that time. Moreover, Commissioner of Police Kamalasan Reddy gave a clean chit saying that Akbaruddin’s statement has no such provocative content.
Everybody thought it was a closed matter. But BJP Karimnagar City President Beti Mahender Reddy took video clippings and submitted in his petition filed before a court. He pleaded before the court for giving deterrent punishment to the MIM leader for trying to disturb harmony and brotherhood among the people of different religions.
The court ordered the police to register a case against Akbaruddin under Sect 153-A (wanton attack on a religion), 153-B (harming national integration) and 506 (using threats and criminal intimidation) of IPC and also under 156(3) (for proper investigation) of CrPC. Section 506 is a non-bailable offence. The court included it as the petitioner complained that Akbaruddin’s speeches were in the nature of threatening followers of one particular religion.
