Everybody agrees that the Telugu Desam Party is facing a deep crisis like never before since its inception. The party is going to face greater hurdles as CM Jaganmohan Reddy and BJP leaders are using every opportunity to demotivate and win over the TDP leaders and cadres all over the state. Amid this, TDP sympathisers started a social media campaign for Jr NTR to come and revive the past glory of the party. Then the question arises whether the existing stalwarts like Chandrababu Naidu, Nandamuri Balakrishna and Lokesh Babu are not enough for this task?
Jr NTR’s fans are of the view that under the present political conditions, the mass appeal of their hero will be a big advantage to boost TDP chances. Balakrishna may be having some of that mass appeal but that is confined to only a section of traditional Sr. NTR’s die-hard fans and TDP sympathisers. It is different with Jr NTR image as he is having a big impact on the present generation of younger fans and voters. Moreover, there is a generation gap between Balakrishna and the present young viewers unlike in the case of Jr NTR.
On the other hand, Chandrababu Naidu is being considered a political mismatch in present-day Andhra politics because of his pro-development policies while Jagan is appealing to the masses with his ultra-populist, caste-based cash transfer welfare schemes. Now, Balakrishna son-in-law Sri Bharath triggered a fresh debate by saying that Jr NTR’s services are not so badly required to revive the party’s past glory.
