The Telangana Congress unit is facing bigger political challenges than ever before. It is in search of an efficient leader who can save the party from present crisis. The ruling TRS is crushing it from one side while the BJP is threatening to emerge as the immediate alternative to TRS. The BJP has also increased its activities in the state. Following this, Congress High Command decided to replace Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Uthamkumar Reddy with a new, dynamic leader with strong potential.
The change of Uthamkumar has become certain following the failure of his leadership in both 2018 Assembly and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP scored one MP seat more which has become a major shock to the Congress rather than the victory of TRS MPs. There were rumours that the Congress may give PCC President post this time to firebrand leaders like Revanth Reddy who joined the party from TDP ahead of 2018 elections.
But the long-standing loyalists and seniors are putting obstacles before Congress High Command. They are demanding PCC for some leader who has been with the party for decades. Seniors like V Hanumantha Rao are not accepting change. On the other hand, there are doubts whether any long-time stalwart can efficiently counter BJP and TRS offensives. Loyalists are expected to object to Revanth Reddy’s candidature. Groupism between bigwigs is throwing Congress into deeper crisis.
