Tadikonda MLA Undavalli Sridevi’s controversial activities started backfiring badly on her now. It took a very serious turn as her issue came up before President Ramnath Kovind. Following a complaint, the President ordered AP Chief Secretary for a detailed report on the actual caste status of Sridevi in view of her own statements in electronic media. During an interview, she said that she was a Christian and married a Kapur person. The video of her statement was circulated widely. This was taken a serious view by the Legal Rights Protection Forum. The Forum started questioning how Sridevi could contest in an SC reserved constituency when she is a converted Christian but not a dalit Hindu by her own recorded admission.

As per the constitution, dalits will lose SC status and all its benefits if they follow religions other than Hinduism. Here, MLA Sridevi is converted to Christianity but she concealed this to continue enjoying the SC reservations benefits. The Legal Rights Forum contends that Sridevi’s election is therefore invalid as she gave false affidavit on her caste at the time of her election nomination.

CS LV Subrahmanyam is now in a tight corner as he cannot hide details because of the video proofs of Sridevi’s speeches. Rivals say that the police complaints given by Sridevi under SC, ST Atrocities Act are also invalid as she is not technically an SC. All this controversy started after Sridevi filed atrocities complaint against TDP leaders in which Jagan supported her.
