The Modi government told the Parliament that there is no proposal before it for developing a second national capital in any south Indian state. The clarification came in response to a question asked by Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao in the Rajya Sabha. Rao asked whether there was any such proposal in view of the frequent rumours about Amaravati and Hyderabad being considered for second capital.
Social media was full of wild speculation in the recent past that Modi Circar is focusing its attention on Amaravati as well. These rumours gained circulation following the recognition given to Amaravati as Capital City of AP. It is marked in red colour in the updated Political Map of India as AP Capital.
Prior to that, there was speculation that Hyderabad was in under the consideration of Central government. It was because of the fast paced growth and also centrally located advantage of the Telangana capital. Ending speculation on this aspect, the Centre has brought curtains down on the second capital proposal for now.
