The AP Cabinet took a decision to give fastest and toughest punishments to the persons convicted in rape, acid attack and women harassment cases. A new law in the name of AP Disha Act will be brought in soon. Under this, the death penalty will be given to the accused persons within 21 days if there is immediate proof. The investigation and trial period will be reduced from 4 months to 21 days. Death penalty will be given also to those convicted in sexual assault cases involving children.
The Jagan Reddy Cabinet has also decided to give toughest punishments to those who are posting objectionable comments against women and girls in the social media. Imprisonment for two to four years will be given. This has raised widespread concerns among the opposition TDP and Jana Sena. The sympathisers of the ruling YCP and opposition parties are engaging in social media wars these days. Very bad comments are being made against women activists. Opposition activists fear that these new laws may be misused openly by Jagan Circar to take political harassment to a new low. Already, many cases are filed against social media activists of TDP and Jana Sena. The YCP leaders are even misusing SC, ST Atrocities cases to file false cases and get opposition leaders arrested. Rivals express doubts as Jagan has not taken action against his own party MP Gorantla Madhav who is facing rape charges.
