That the Telugu Desam Party leadership is not able to pull its act together to meet post- Telangana situation is evident in every mishap it suffered in the past 17 months, the latest being the humiliating defeat in the Warangal in the form of NDA candidate.
Caught up in too many problems of his own creation in Andhra Pradesh, TDP president Chandrababu Naidu, who calls himself as the national president of the party now, appears to have lost the control of the party in Telangana. Barring a few routine meetings with Telangana TDP leaders, there has been no major attempt to streamline the party in the state. To be precise, the TDP has no policy whatsoever on any of the issues challenging the existence of the party in the new state. For example , the party has not spelt out what its stand is on the proposed splitting of existing ten districts into 24 districts.
The lack of policy on the creation of new districts led to a bitter fight between two important leaders in Nalgonda district- Motkupally Narasimhulue and A Uma Madhav Reddy. While Motkupally, who hails from Alair constituency, sat on a Deeksha today demanding creation of separate Yadagiri Gutta district, Uma Madhava Reddy is actively campaigning for the Bhongir district. If Yadagiri Gutta is made a separate district, Motkupalli would become uncrowned king of the new district. Because, now Yadagiri Gutta is a mandal in Alair Constituency which he represented for five terms. Uma Madhav Reddy demands that Bhogir, which her husband and she represented for 25 years, be made a district. TRS is planning to merge Yadagiri Gutta with proposed Siddipet district, which is the fortress of T Harish Rao, irrigation minister. This would defeat both Motkupally and Uma Reddy. For the past few days, Motkupalli has been organizing various programs to mobilize people in favor of separate Yadagiri Gutta district. He organized a padayatra from Alair to Gutta followd by an all party meeting. And today, he sat a day-long fast near MRO office of Alair. Motkupally and Uma Reddy family have been arch rivals in the party over who should control the district. The clash between Uma’s husband and Motkupally is well known. It drove the latter to quit the party for some time. The dalit leader returned home only after the Madhava Reddy was killed by Maoists.
But, Naidu, steeped neck deep in new capital related problems in AP, has no time to resolve the dispute between the two TDP stalwarts nor is he able to concentrate on the fall out of proposed creation of new districts by TRS government. Telugu Desam leaders worry that if the party had no clear policy on the new districts and program of action to cope with it , the new districts would be created in such a way that the TDP would get obliterated in the reorganization of districts.
