Telangana and Andhra Pradesh recorded their steepest single-day spike till date in the last 24 hours.
While Telangana registered 499 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the state tally to 6,526, Andhra Pradesh reported the highest single-day surge with an alarming number of 465 people testing positive for the infection taking the tally in the state to 7,961.
Three deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in Telangana, at least four people died of the virus in Andhra Pradesh during the period. Telangana death count climbed to 198 while 96 succumbed to corona in AP.
The spurt is a cause for worry. A wave of infections are being reported as both the states gradually are moving to Unlock 1.0 from the complete lockdown. The offices are opened, markets, malls, temples have been reopened.
In Telangana, around 2,477 people were tested, of which 499 were tested positive. Till now, the state health department had conducted 50,569 tests. Around 3,352 corona patients were discharged after treatment. Currently, there are 2,976 active cases. Of the 499 cases, 329 were reported in GHMC limits, while 129 were registered in Ranga Reddy district. All the other districts reported cases in single digits.
In AP, two succumbed to corona in the Krishna district, one each from Prakasam and Srikakulam districts. Of the 465 new cases in AP, 19 people had travel history and 70 people from other states had contracted the virus. In the last 24 hours, tests were conducted on 17,608 people. Around 82 corona patients were discharged after treatment.
