A ‘caste war’ seems to have erupted in ruling TRS in Telangana after TRS president and Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao nominated six MLCs under MLAs quota.
KCR released the list of six candidates on Tuesday and within a day the ‘caste war’ started over “Reddy domination” in TRS on Wednesday.
Out of six candidates nominated by KCR, three are Reddys, while only one Velama, one BC and one SC got the chance.
TRS is seen as a “Velama dominated party” but KCR giving more priority to Reddys in his cabinet and also in nominated posts is not going down well with Velamas and other caste leaders.
Already there are six Reddy ministers in KCR’s cabinet. Speaker post is a bonus which is also held by Reddy.
Now KCR nominated Siddipet former collector P.Venkatrama Reddy, Gutha Sukender Reddy and Padi Kaushik Reddy as MLCs.
Velama and other castes are seething with anger and arguing strongly among themselves that KCR should ignore Reddys at least while announcing the party’s candidates for 12 MLC seats under local bodies quota.
KCR has to declare these candidates by November 23 and if KCR gives priority to Reddy again, it is speculated that it will only worsen caste war in TRS and damage it politically.
TRS is yet to recover from the shocking defeat in Huzurabad Assembly bypoll recently and if caste war escalates it would further weaken the party.
