YSR Congress has dared the TDP Government to spell out its stand on imposing total prohibition in the state in the interest of the poorer sections of the society.
While interacting with the families of victims of Vijayawada spurious liquor tragedy, YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy assured the people that he would impose total prohibition in the state once the party came to power.
Jagan, who attempted to make special category state status a weapon to corner TDP government, faced a setback when he could not continue his indefinite fast in Guntur. Police forcibly lifted him to the hospital and he called of the fast. Since then the Opposition party has been bereft of any issue that could spread like a wild fire among the people. The liquor tragedy, in which five wage laborers perished has provided a great opportunity to stage one-upmanship against Naidu. Jagan, without hesitation announced the total liquor ban, hitting headlines. Today, his party challenged the ruling party to come out with its stand on the prohibition.
‘TDP should tell if it is ready to impose total prohibition in the state instead of attacking the opposition parties,’ party spokesperson K Parthasarathi asked on Wednesday.
He said it would reveal Naidu’s true colors with regard to his commitment towards welfare of the poor.
“The liquor tragedy warrants some senior introspection by the ruling party about its policy to no holds barred promote liquor consumption which inevitably leads to disasters like the one happened in Vijyawada. Our party is now committed to total liquor prohibition. Naidu, if sincere, should also announce ban and save the lives of the poor,” Partha Sarathi said.
