The Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu today made a statement in the Legislative Assembly on the call money racket.
Important points:
The police registered 227 cases across the State for levying exorbitant interest rate including five cases of sexual harassment. In all, 188 accused had been arrested. Among them 65 are with YSR Congress background. The remaining come from TDP (20), Congress (12), BJP (4), CPI (6) and CPI (M) (1) Cases were also registered against 78 others who have no political links.

Government has resolved to apply the amended sections of the IPC, Nirbhaya Act, in the cases where money lending is linked to sexual harassment of female borrowers.

A special court at Vijayawada will be set up with a special public prosecutor to try the Nirbhaya cases for speedy disposal of cases. Efforts are underway to bring a very stringent act to regulate money lending business.

The Government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the issue and anyone with complaints can approach the judicial commission. No one will be spared. This is our firm assurance and commitment to the people.
