Foundation stone laid for new AIIMS at Mangalagiri. Union Heath Minister J P Nadda said that construction of the new institute will cost Rs 1,620 Cr. The institute will add an additional 16,300 bed strength, and 100 additional medical seats to Andhra Pradesh.
Hyderabad: Union Minister for Health J P Nadda laid foundation stone to a 960 bedded All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS), at Mangalagiri on Saturday. It was one among the 11 higher educational institutions promised by the Centre at the time of passing the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Bill-2014. It is going to come up in an area of 2000 acres with an estimated cost of Rs 1,620 Cr.
Nadda said that it will take three years to complete the works. But, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has asked him to bring the AIIMS into operation within two years.
Addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation stone, the Union Minister said that the new AIIMS will have a unique feature of an integrated and holistic health care approach. As part of this, the institute will have a Department of AYUSH, providing medical care in Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy systems, he added.
The new institution will not only add 16,300 an additional bed strength, but, it will also add an additional 100 medical seats to the State, Nadda said. The new AIIMS will have all the super-specialties.
Similarly, the Center is planning to set up 10 AIIMS in all the states in the country to extend super-specialties and to provide tertiary medical care to all the regions in the country. In addition to this, the Centre is also wanted to add super-specialty blocks in about 70 medical colleges functioning in different parts of the country. A plan was also ready to upgrade the existing hospitals into medical colleges. For this, the Centre has selected district hospitals in 58 districts from across the country.
Nadda has also announced that one state cancer institute and one tertiary care centre will be coming up the State.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has asked the Union Minister’s co-operation to start six more medical colleges in the state, under the PMSSY, and sought a financial help to the tune of Rs 1,098 Cr for improving infrastructure in the state-run medical colleges under the scheme. The Chief Minister has also asked Nadda for a Medical Manufacturing Park at Visakhapatnam, National Pharmaceutical Education and Research Centre, financial help to develop trauma centers in government hospitals, three Nursing Colleges, a Cancer Center, eye and ENT Hospitals and the like.
