Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said on Sunday that the Modi government had nothing to do with National Herald case, which was being tried by Metropolitan Magistrate court of New Delhi.
Venkaiah said Modi had nothing to do with the case and it was filed in 2012 when Manmohan Singh was the prime minister. “Should Manmohan Singh be held responsible because the petition was filed during his regime. They(Congress party) should think before making allegations otherwise such allegations boomerang,” he warned in a press conference in Hyderabad.
Taking objection to Congress’ attempt to browbeat the Court by resorting to show of strength, Venkaiah said Modi never took shelter in the blackmailing of courts when he was summoned by court even though he was chief minister of Gujarajt.
He recalled how Modi as chief minister of Gujarat appeared before Special Investigation Team and never resorted to staging processions and disrupting Parliament or Gujarat assembly. “There were also no celebrations when court struck down the case against Modi,” he said. He said same decorum was observed when BJP president Amit Shah was arrested and sent to jail. “The Congress party says that NDA government is targeting opponents but people know who targeted opponents, murdered democracy, sent lakhs of people to jails and muzzled the voice of press,” he said adding that Congress had no right to criticize the government.
The union minister alleged that the Congress party was trying to invent reasons to disrupt Parliament and added that it had been the habit of the Opposition party to stall the House on one pretext or the other when in trouble. “They don’t know what they are doing and for what they are striking. They are inventing reasons for disruption of Parliament,” he said.
Stating that the country was on the path of progress under Narendra Modi’s leadership, Naidu said the opposition party was unable to digest this fact and hence searches for alibis to stall introduction of several key bills in the Parliament. “The only activity of the Congress is to criticize the government and attempt to tarnish the image by making wild allegations,” Naidu said and advised the Opposition party not to bring court matters on the roads.
“Political parties are meant to provide leadership to public. But inciting party workers to show their muscle power and burn the effigies of the prime minister on matters under court consideration is tantamount to insulting courts and putting indirect pressure on courts,” he said.
He wondered as to how getting bail from a court becomes a cause of celebration for Congress party as if it was a victory.
