Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu today announced in most unambiguous terms that the location of capital was a closed chapter and urged the opposition not to make any attempt to disturb the construction of the new capital Amaravati. “Capital location is a case of fait accompli” he declared.
Participating in the Call Money debate in the Legislative Council today he said there had been going on a concerted effort to create a sense of panic among the people and those who want to invest here. ” One persons repeatedly uses the Sex Racket language while referring to the call money business another says water deluge was waiting to engulf Amaravati city. This is not good. Stop tarnishing the image of Amaravati for political reasons,” he said responding to points raised by C Ramachandraiah, leader of Opposition (Congress) in the Council.
Naidu was referring to the letter submitted to President Pranab Mukherjee by Opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy yesterday in which, Naidu said, Vijayawada was portrayed as crime capital. Similarly, Congress Rajya Sabha member Dr KVP Ramachandra Rao sought Prime Minister intervention in the Capital City ‘safety’ issue.
Writing a letter to Prime Miniser Modi, Dr Rao expressed serious apprehension over the safety of new capital Amaravati, located in the flood-prone area between Krishna River and Kondaveeti Vagu. ” The whole Amaravati region is flood-prone area. The state government , without taking appropriate permission from Ministry of Environment and Forest wants to construct the capital by taking permission from State environment impact assessment authority (SEIAA) which doesn’t have power to give permission for the townships with an area above 50 ha.” Dr KVP said in the letter written on Sunday.
” You (critics of capital) are all working with an aim to stop the capital construction with one pretext or the other. One shows sex racket, other talks of floods. Where is the sex racket?” Naidu asked.
“Are you not hurting the sentiments of women, who are our own sisters and mothers. By talking repeatedly about sex racket, do you want to frighten people that every woman is involved in the racket in Vijayawada. Isn’t it irresponsible to tar everybody with same brush. Only one woman has come with a complaint of sexual harassment. We are invoking the Nirbhaya against the perpetrator of the crime. We won’t leave anybody. I have asked the police to send notices to all officials at field to level to verify the cases. Money lending has been there around for ages. But we won’t leave those who got the properties of debtors transferred just because they had defaulted. I asked everybody, the victims of exorbitant interest rate, not to pay anything to money-lenders,” the CM said.
