Protesting against the government’s decision not to take up reallocation of Krishna water on priority basis to the drought prone regions like Rayalaseema for a discussion, Congress members from Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council today staged a walk out .
Opposition leader in the House, C Ramachandraiah asked the government to tell why it was disallowing the discussion after agreeing in Business Advisory Council (BAC) meeting. ” In the BAC meeting, every party, including ruling Telugu Desam, agreed to include the debate on reallocation of Krishna water in the agenda. Now, the chair is not allowing the debate. It is clearly bias against the Rayalaseema region. We are walking out in protest, It looks as if the government is running the House,” he said and led Congress members from Rayalaseema walk out of the House.
Among all the regions, it was Rayalaseema which was badly hit by the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and the TDP government was not allowing to raise the injustice done to the Rayalaseema in House, he said. ” Rayalaseema doesn’t get water from Srisailam unless the water level is maintained at 854 feet. And if the water is available Telangna will use it to generate electricity. On one side, Andhra Pradesh government takes water to the Delta and other other, T-government can’t be stopped from electricity generation. The casualty is Rayalaseema,” he said.
“Let’s discuss the Rayalaseema issue in the House and adopt a resolution urging the centre for special allocation to the Rayalaseema. Let the House urge the centre to make a reference to this effect to the Krishna water tribunal before final allocation is made,” Ramachandraiah said and asked the government to spell out why the government was opposed to a debate on special allocation of water to Rayalaseema.
He cautioned the state government to stop giving short shrift to Rayalaseema. ” There has already been a wide spread resentment among the people of Rayalaseema. It is just a matter of time before it catches fire, Ramachandraiah warned.
