Telugu film Devara, starring NTR in dual roles along with Saif Ali Khan and Jahnvi Kapoor, clocked $ 5 Million gross in North America including all languages in the first weekend. After taking a humongous start with $ 2.8 Million gross from its Thursday premieres, the action saga directed by Koratala Siva slowed down considerably over the next three days due to mixed reports and ended the first weekend with $ 5.12 Million gross. This is an impressive run for a commercial film, but trade circles will be a little disappointed with the drastic fall in the collections after such a fantastic start.
After a solid opening on premieres day, Devara notched up close to $ 905K on Friday with a combined total of $ 3.7 Million on the first day. With this, Devara emerged as the highest opener in North America after RRR, Kalki, Baahubali 2 and Salaar. However, the film then lost steam as there was a steady decline in the bookings on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Devara managed to rake in around $ 633K which is comparatively lesser than the first Saturday figures of many big hits in the last few years. Due to divide talk and moderate reviews, the collections plunged in the weekend as per trade analysts.
On Sunday, Devara didn’t show any signs of surge in the collections as it struggled all the way to touch $ 400K as of this writing to take the tally past $ 5 million mark including the combined gross from Hindi and Tamil version in USA and Canada. The film is now on the verge of becoming the six biggest Telugu grosser in North America after Baahubali 2, Kalki, RRR, Salaar and Baahubali. It will surpass the lifetime gross of HanuMan shortly take the sixth place. It will end up around $ 6 Million in the long run.
From trade perspective, Devara will touch the break even mark but might not garner big profits as expected before the release when there is a massive hype and sensational advance sales. Nevertheless, Devara is the biggest grosser for both NTR( considering RRR is a multi-starrer) and Koratala Siva.
