Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharathi appreciated the way the Telagnana government’s efforts in the revival of thousands of tanks under Mission Kakatiya programme, and people’s participation in it. She directed officials to visit Telangana and study the people’s participation practice in Mission Kakatiya.
Hyderabad: Peoples participation in Mission Kakatiya has come under praise by the Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharathi. The minister expressed this, when the state irrigation engineers presented the design of the programme before the union minister, for financial assistance to Mission Kakaitya, a flagship programme of the government.
As part of revival of the village tanks, the Telangana government has taken up de-silting of tanks in a big way. And, thousands of tones of excavated soil distributed free of cost to the farmers. Paying keen interest in the thousands of people, particularly farmers in the de-silting works of the tanks, the UM asked the officials of her ministry to study the design of the programme. Because, it could be replicated during the Rejuvination Plan of River Ganga, by involving people and farmers, the minister pointed out.
Following the Telangana government rejecting any World Bank loan to the project, Uma Bharathi directed officials to release pending financial assistance to the tune of Rs 600 Cr to the State, irrigation officials said.
