Pottel Movie Review
Telugu360 Rating: 2.5/5
Pottel is one small film that caught everyone’s attention because of the content. The trailer and the promotional content are quite impressive. The film discusses the dominance of Patels and their culture in the villages. Sahit Mothkuri is the director and Yuva Chandraa, Ananya Nagalla, Noel Sean and Ajay played the lead roles. The film released all over today and here is the review of Pottel:
Story:
The film happens during the domination of Patels and Pottel happens in Gurram Gattu village. Balamma happens to be the belief of the village. A traditional jathara takes place every 12 years for their idol and Pottel is given as a gift. A family takes the responsibility to raise the pottel before the jathara. Gangadhar (Yuva Chandra) takes the responsibility of Pottel. Patel (Ajay) is an evil-minded person and he imposes several restrictions. He promotes the kids of his caste for schools and treats others henously. Gangadhar wants to educate his child and he fights against Patel in the village. The rest of Pottel is all about the education of the girl child of Gangadhar and what happens next.
Analysis:
Pottel cannot be narrated in a single line. It has various layers and discusses the rule of Patels, superstitions, importance of education and the social responsibilities in the society. Pottel is a small film with a bigger span. The director takes the first 30 minutes to narrate the plot of the film. All the crucial roles are introduced. The love story of Gangadhar and Bujjamma (Ananya Nagalla) is narrated later and it happens on a crisp note. The flashback episodes along with the present are narrated. The pre-interval episode is narrated in an interesting manner apart from the first 30 minutes of the film. The rest of the first half is just passable.
The second half of Pottel is packed with loads of violence. The lead actor gets insulted and he is beaten badly throughout the second half. The heroine too gets insulted and the episode will not appeal to everyone. It would be tough for the audience to digest the problems of the family. Huge dose of violence is not really needed for Pottel. The director misses the logic in some of the episodes. Pottel happened before the 1980s as NTR canceled the Patel culture after coming to power in 1984. Nagarjuna’s Siva movie is played in an episode which was released in 1989. Patel is waiting for a moment and Gangadhar gets caught in his house before a robbery. But Patel will not utilize the opportunity. The second half is dragged out completely. The climax of Pottel is decent and it is laced with an emotional song. The violence in the second half should have been low.
Performances:
The director has been successful in finding the right actors for the prominent roles. Yuva Chandra is apt as Gangadhar and he played his role well. He is good in the emotional episodes. Ananya Nagalla as Bujjamma is good and she did her part well. Ananya scores full marks in an episode with Patel in the second half. Ajay is the lead antagonist but he gets the best role in Pottel. He has delivered his best once again and he is apt for the role of Patel. Noel and Srikanth Iyyengar are decent in their roles.
Pottel is a technically sound film. The producers should be appreciated for their grand production values throughout the film. The cinematography work, music and the art work are good. All the songs are melodious and the climax song offers goosebumps. The violence in the second half is beyond the limits. A better second half would have done wonders for a film like Pottel. Keeping the commercial aspects aside, Pottel will surely get a number of awards.
