In press conference, Telangana former minister KTR (K. T. Rama Rao) addressed the controversy surrounding the Formula E racing event held in Hyderabad. KTR stated that the event was organized to enhance the brand image of Hyderabad, and he is ready to face any investigation.
KTR revealed that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) spent around ₹50 crores on the event, which resulted in a profit of ₹700 crores for the state government within a year. He questioned the allegations of corruption and asked why a case has been filed against him, arguing that the event attracted massive investments worth thousands of crores to the state.
“If the congress government put me in jail for a few months, I will use that time to do yoga and prepare for a padayatra (long march),” KTR said, challenging the authorities. He accused the Congress party of canceling the Formula E race as soon as they came to power, which he claims has harmed Hyderabad’s international reputation.
KTR criticized Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, demanding that he file a case against the municipal administration for damaging Hyderabad’s reputation by abruptly canceling the event. He revealed that the state government had initially spent only ₹35-40 crores on the event, while the Green CO company spent over ₹100 crores.
The BRS party leader also alleged that the Congress and BJP are colluding at the Raj Bhavan to “finish off” the BRS party. He stated that the governor’s decision to allow prosecution is a matter of discretion, and he is ready to face any investigation.
