In a novel protest, the Telangana Congress leaders on Friday celebrated Christmas at the very site in Mahindra Hills where Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao laid foundation stone for Christian Bhavan exactly one year ago.
“KCR has cheated the entire Christian community on the occasion of holy Christmas last year. He laid the foundation for Christmas Bhavan, sanctioned Rs. 10 crore for the building and even promised that this year’s Christmas will be celebrated in the same building. After one year and two days, except for the foundation stone and plaque, there is nothing on this site,” Shabbir Ali said while addressing a press conference.
Shabbir Ali, along with Greater Hyderabad Congress president Danam Nagender, former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana, ex-MLAs Marri Sashidhar Reddy and Mallareddy Ranga Reddy and other Congress leaders, cut the Christmas Cake in front of the foundation stone of non-existent Christian Bhavan. “All the projects, including 2BHK houses, whose foundation stones are being laid by Panchayat Raj Minister K. Tarakarama Rao and other ministers, will meet the same fate. Except for foundation stones, there will be nothing after the GHMC election,” he said.
The Congress leader described KCR as a habitual liar and cheater. “KCR praised Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi Ji immediately after the passing of Telangana Bill. Later, he forgot her and during his last visit to New Delhi, he did not have the courtesy of wishing Sonia Gandhi Ji on her birthday. When KCR can forget the creator of Telangana, imagine the fate of Telangana people. He is simply making fake promises to win elections,” he alleged.
Shabbir Ali also accused the TRS leaders of trying to take credit for the projects initiated and executed by the previous Congress Government. Citing an instance, he said that the Godavari River drinking water for Hyderabad was conceptualised during the regime of the then Chief Minister Marri Chenna Reddy. It was approved during the period of Dr. Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy and its tenders were called during Dr. Y.S.Rajasehakara Reddy’s regime. “As the then Hyderabad incharge minister, I laid the foundation stones. But now, KTR is highlight the project as the achievement of TRS Government,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Danam Nagender appealed to the people not to get misled with the propaganda being carried out by TRS leaders. He said except for making tall claims and fake promises, TRS Government was not doing anything.
Shashidhar Reddy said that the Congress would enlighten the people of Hyderabad on how they are being cheated by the TRS leaders.
Sarve Satyanarayana slammed the TRS leaders for staking claims on projects approved and executed during Congress regimes. He said that the overhead tank in Marredpally was constructed during UPA Rule at a cost of Rs. 120 crore. But KTR is making false claims that the project was started and completed during 18-month rule of TRS Government.
Later, Congress leaders also distributed clothes among the poor people on the occasion of Christmas.
