Pushpa 2 The Rule Movie Review
Pushpa 2 The Rule Movie Review
Telugu360 Rating: 3.25/5
After the massive buzz surrounding films like the Baahubali series and RRR, Pushpa 2: The Rule emerged as one of the most anticipated movies in Indian cinema. Unlike the first part, which lacked such hype initially, Pushpa 1 gained momentum post-release. Despite mixed reviews at the beginning and being deemed a potential flop by some, it created a storm in the North, especially among mass audiences, turning into a blockbuster. This success set sky-high expectations for Pushpa 2, prompting Sukumar to take his time crafting this project. The director invested three years into the film, and Allu Arjun dedicated himself exclusively to the role, rejecting all other offers. Let us see how this film has shaped up
Story:
The story picks up from where Pushpa 1 left off, with Pushpa (Allu Arjun) continuing his dominance as the “Sandalwood King.” He funds the ruling political party generously but faces humiliation when his wife, Srivalli (Rashmika Mandanna), innocently requests a photo with the Chief Minister. The CM’s rejection, claiming smugglers have no place in public appearances, enrages Pushpa. He vows to dethrone the CM and make his ally, MP Siddappa (Rao Ramesh), the new Chief Minister, setting the stage for his next big mission. Pushpa needs ₹500 crores for this, requiring the smuggling of 2,000 tons of red sandalwood. The rest of the story revolves around his face-off with the determined Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil), his promise to Srivalli, and his quest for identity and respect.
Strengths:
-
- Allu Arjun’s Performance: Allu Arjun delivers a stellar performance, proving why he is one of the finest actors in Indian cinema. He lives and breathes Pushpa’s character, portraying every emotion—rage, vulnerability, and humor—with finesse. His performance in Pushpa 2 solidifies his place as a national-level performer deserving of accolades.
- Sukumar’s Direction: While the narrative lacks a strong story, Sukumar focuses on elevating the character of Pushpa. The screenplay is packed with high-impact hero-elevation scenes, keeping fans thoroughly entertained. Moments like the confrontation with the CM and the interval block showcase Sukumar’s trademark storytelling style.
- Jathara Episode: This 25-minute segment is the film’s crowning glory. Allu Arjun’s performance during this episode is a visual and emotional treat, leaving audiences mesmerized. Rashmika’s portrayal as Srivalli also shines here, adding depth to the emotional stakes.
Technical:
- The production values are top-notch, with every rupee spent visible on screen. Devi Sri Prasad’s songs and background score elevate the film’s mass appeal, while the choreography of action sequences is both engaging and extravagant.
Songs:
- While the songs in Pushpa: Part 1 stood out prominently, in Pushpa 2, they are overshadowed by Bunny’s elevation scenes. That said, it doesn’t imply the songs are lacking; they are highly mass-appealing and fit the tone of the film perfectly.
Weaknesses:
- Weak Storyline: The narrative doesn’t offer much in terms of novelty. The focus is more on the character of Pushpa than on telling a compelling story. Some scenes feel over-the-top, like Pushpa’s fight scene in Japan after surviving without food and water for 40 days.
- Climax Execution: While the climax provides emotional closure, it feels slightly stretched. The handling of Fahadh Faasil’s character, Bhanwar Singh, is also inconsistent, with some moments diluting his villainous impact.
- Supporting Characters: Roles like those of Sunil and Anasuya are underutilized, and their contributions to the narrative feel minimal.
Verdict:
Pushpa 2: The Rule is a high-octane commercial entertainer that delivers what it promises- heroic elevation, mass appeal, and stunning visuals. Despite its narrative shortcomings, Sukumar’s focus on crafting impactful moments and Allu Arjun’s mesmerizing performance overshadow any flaws. The Jathara episode alone is enough to keep audiences hooked, while the emotional core tied to Srivalli adds depth to the larger-than-life action.
With no major competition and a massive fan following, Pushpa 2 is set to achieve big success across India. If Pushpa 1 turned Allu Arjun into a pan-India star, Pushpa 2 cements his legacy as a national icon. The film stands as a testament to the growing dominance of Telugu cinema on the global stage.
