Congress Government in Telangana has taken up Caste Census and made public the details of caste configurations. Caste census was taken up to appease a section of BCs leaders and Revanth Reddy Sarkar feels that it will win over BCs with Caste census and increasing the BCs reservations in local bodies elections.
On the otherside, Revanth Reddy-led Congress Government is also actively pursuing SC categorization.
Put together Caste census, protests and counter protests by Madigas and Malas, Telangana is witnessing fullscale bitter Caste politics. At a time when development, welfare, progressive politics were taking centrestage in Telangana, CM Revanth Reddy Sarkar, has brought back Caste politics into limelight.
But the big question plaguing everyone is, “Are Congress Government’s efforts relating to Caste part of ‘social engineering’ or ‘divisive politics’ aimed at ‘divide and rule’ strategy adopted by crooked age-old politicians?”
Congress scion Rahul Gandhi has been vocally proposing Caste Census across India. His demand and action plan is exactly opposite to successful and savvy three-time PM Narendra Modi, who talks if ‘One India’ and making India a global leader.
CM Revanth Reddy, one among the three Congress CMs in the country, is actively pursuing Caste politics following Rahul Gandhi’s footsteps. While what is his strategy is well known to him and future will decide whether it will reward or punish Congress, one thing which is sure is, that Revanth Sarkar is more interested in Caste politics rather than on ‘welfare’ and ‘development’ which were the mainstay of Indian politicians in 21st century.
