YSR Congress today raised an important point regarding the constitution of the committee by Assembly speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao to inquire into the suspension of MLA Roja, leakage of Assembly proceedings’ footage etc. The Opposition party is of the opinion that a speaker against whom a no-confidence motion is served is not supposed to constitute an inquiry committee.
Expressing its disapproval of the constitution of a committee ‘to inquire into the proceedings of Assembly on December 22’ , the Opposition party said, “it was unfair”.
Stating that the speaker constituted the committee after no-confidence motion was submitted and a decision was pending on it, the YSRC objected to the very reference to the Zero happenings.
“The zero hour mention is not the issue,” said G Srikanth Reddy, party MLA, and member of the panel the speaker announced the other day. “We have demanded an inquiry into how the video footage of Assembly proceedings, which were not telecast live, found their way into the media. Who leaked this to the media and what is the action proposed against the culprit and steps taken so far taken to fix responsibility?,” Reddy asked.
He also took objection to the Speaker Kodela feigning ignorance over the leakage of footage.
Referring to the different versions of footage given to the ruling and the opposition parties, Srikanth Reddy said only the opposition members were shown and it was an edited to show the opposition members in poor light.
‘What our MLA RK Roja spoke was shown and what provoked her was edited. The unruly behavior of the ruling party was not made available. This selective release of videos of the House proceedings is objectionable. The setting up of a committee on the zero hour proceedings only shows that the entire committee has a pre-planned agenda and wanted to function as per the script,’ he said.
