Though Chandrababu Naidu advised BCs to be accommodative to Kapus with large-heartedness , many important Telugu Desam leaders are not ready to back their boss. Majority of BCs in TDP are opposed to the inclusion of Kapu, one of the single largest communities of the state, in the list of BC communities. KE Prabhakar, former TDP minister and brother of deputy chief minister KE Krishnamurthy, categorically said today he was opposed to the idea of categorizing the Kapu as a backward community. Prabhakar, leader from Ediga communality, led a protest rally against the TDP’s move and Mudragada Padmanabham’ fast unto death.
Reminding the demands of many most backward communities from BCs that be included in list of scheduled castes and tribes. “If the government is so particular about according BC status to Kapus, Balijas, Telaga and Ontari communities, then it should also take a decision to fulfill the demand of Valmiki, Rajaka, Uppara and Vaddera communities to grant SC and ST status to them,” Prabhakar said.
The TDP leader from Kurnool district urged the TDP government not to entertain any demand from the Kapus for BC status as it would lead to the crisis in the state. ” Reservation must be based scientific study of the communities’ social standing. A political pressure should not be the criterion for the inclusion of any caste either BCs or SCs and STs,” Prabhakar, who is also district TDP general secretary, said.
BCs , the said, were still not able to utilize the reservation provide to them because of irregularities in issuing BC certificates. ” Many upper caste people are getting BC certificate and cornering the political benefits in local bodies. If the Kapus are given BC status, they would further be pushed aside. This is bound to lead to unrest in the state,” Prabhakar said advising his own party leadership not venture to accommodate Kapus among the BC communities.
